SCHENECTADY - William John Galka, II, 72, of 13 th Street, passed away after a
long fought battle with grace and dignity, on Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at his
most favorite place on earth, his loving home, with his beloved wife, his devoted
son, William, III and his loving sister-in-law, Barbara at his side.
Bill was born in Schenectady, the son of the late William and Henrietta
Wright Galka. He had a love and an eye for everything beautiful, which lead him to
his established career as an antiquarian. He mentored under Lee Keneston and
owned and operated Galka Antiques. Bill together with his beloved Debbie, enjoyed
a very peaceful and serene life. They loved traveling, especially to the ocean; these
were the best of times. Bill’s knowledge of all things was legendary, his family and
friends would always defer to him for answers. He was an avid fan of his NY
Yankees. We will all miss his laughter, smile, thoughtfulness and the happy warm
person Bill was. May he finally rest in peace.
In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his in-laws, Guido and
Bessie Iovinella; brother, John Galka; and a niece, Michelle Tote.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Deborah Iovinella Galka, loving sons,
William J. (Heather) Galka, III, Richard Galka, Michael Galka, and Joseph Galka,
who resides in Florida; grandchildren, William J. (Ali) Galka IV, Brooke, Brianna,
Lily, Gillian, Connie and Cody Galka: siblings, Marietta (Dave) Ralston and Ed
(Ann) Galka; in-laws, Barbara L. Iovinella, Guido (Barbara) Iovinella; nieces and
nephews , Joe ( Jenn) Zelezniak, II, Salvatore (Mia) Iovinella, Reice King, Annie
and Chet Galka, Tricia O’Keefe, Dave Ralston, Eddie and Derrick Galka ; great-
nieces and nephews, Joe (Reanna) Zelezniak III, Michael and Eric Zelezniak,
Bambina and Giada, Iovinella.
Debbie will be eternally grateful to her sister Barbara for her around the clock
loving care; she provided; to William for his support throughout; to Tricia Barkman,
for her attentive and overnight assistance; Ellis Hospital, and Community Hospice,
especially Rene, Jen and Peter for the wonderful care Bill received.
For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to a
charity of one’s choice.
Private services will be held.
A Celebration of Bill’s life will be held in the spring.
