Vincent Schiavo

Vincent “Vince” Schiavo passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026.

A proud graduate of Linton High School, Class of 1981, Vince was a dedicated student-athlete who excelled in both football and baseball. His love of athletics and education guided him to the State University of New York at Cortland, where he enjoyed playing football and earned his undergraduate degree, and later to Norwich University, where he completed his master’s degree.

Vince began his lifelong passion for coaching football as a graduate assistant at Norwich University. His coaching journey took him to Albright College and Hamilton College before ultimately leading him to Stranahan High School in South Florida. There, Vince made a lasting impact on countless student-athletes, serving as both a mentor and role model. As a head football coach, he was honored as the NFL/Miami Dolphins High School Coach of the Week—an achievement that reflected his dedication, leadership, and commitment to excellence.

Following the completion of his coaching career, Vince continued his devotion to education as a longtime high school administrator in Broward County. He was especially passionate about working with underprivileged young adults and took great pride in witnessing their growth and success. His belief in his students—and his unwavering support—changed lives far beyond the classroom and the field.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Vince lived life fully. He was a member of the Schenectady Old Timers Baseball Club and treasured the camaraderie and tradition of the game. He found peace on long motorcycle rides and was an avid horse racing fan, spending weeks each summer at the Saratoga Race Course, a place that brought him great joy year after year.

Vince is survived by his parents, Louis and Kathy Schiavo of Niskayuna; his two beloved daughters, Jaime of Pennsylvania and Katie of California, who were the pride and joy of his life; his longtime companion, Cathy Bonnewell of Florida; and the mother of his daughters, Marcia Lund of Florida. He is also survived by his younger brothers, Raymond of New Jersey and Andrew (Susan) of Niskayuna, as well as his cherished nieces and nephews—Hannah, Vince’s goddaughter, Jack, Grace, Lena, Raymond, and Drew, Vince’s godson, of whom he was immensely proud.

Vince will be remembered for his deep love of family, his unwavering commitment to education and athletics, and the countless lives he touched as a coach, mentor, administrator, and friend. His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the relationships he built, and the many people who were better for having known him.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 23, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Vince’s memory to Jack’s Place, 17 Rosa Road, Schenectady, NY 12308.
