SCHENECTADY – Valerie Rybak Famiano, 91, formerly of Mason Street, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday at the Glendale Home, with her daughter-in-law at her side.
Valerie was born February 23, 1921 in Schenectady, a daughter of the late Frank and Catherine Hiitter Rybak. She was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Valerie worked at the Wallace Co. and for ALCO, before starting her career as a secretary at the R&D Center in Niskayuna, working for Dr. Benz. She was a devoted wife and mother. Valerie was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and the former Holy Cross Church.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 65 years, Anthony J. Famiano on May 5, 2005 and her loving son Peter Famiano on March 28, 2009.
Valerie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Beverly Famiano, of West Orange, NJ and a brother, Don Derkowsky and his wife Bonnie, of Schenectady.
Service will be held Saturday at 10 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets and then to St. Anthony's Church were a Mass will be celebrated at 11 am. Interment will be held at a later date in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Brandywine Avenue.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Friday from 5 to 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Valerie's memory to St. Anthony's Church, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady, NY 12305.
