It is with a heavy heart and many tears that we send our Beloved Teddy on his final Journey. Theodore (Ted) Soroka passed away on September 15, 2018 at his home after a long illness, surrounded by family and friends.
Born October 24, 1926 in Chester, PA- he was the son of the late Theodore, Sr. and Mary Soroka and predeceased by his sister, Eva Uzych on May 20, 2016.
Ted graduated from Chester High School and later served in the U.S. Navy stationed in the Pacific during WWII. During that time, he became a Medic with the U.S. Marines.
When the war ended, Ted attended Villanova University and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. He later joined his father in the real estate business and among other properties, ran the Famous Hotel in Chester, Pennsylvania which included 51 rooms, a restaurant and a bar. When the hotel was sold in 1973, Ted married the sweetheart of his life- Annette (Cam) Cammarota on February 24, 1974 whom he met in Mexico City in 1953 while she was attending the University of Mexico. During their marriage, they lived in North Miami and Miami Lakes, Florida where he was employed at the Palm Bay Club in Miami and the Carriage House in Miami Beach. Ted was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in North Miami and Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, Miami Lakes. He was very active at both of these Churches, but because of Cam’s association with the Miami Archdiocese, Ted was always involved in whatever programs and functions that had to be attended to. Wherever you found Cam working on a project, there was Ted alongside her.
When Cam’s mother had a stroke in 1995, they returned to Schenectady to care for her parents until they all returned to Miami Lakes in January 1996. In 1999, they returned to Schenectady and purchased a home in Niskayuna. Ted and Cam are communicants at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church.
Both of Cam’s parents lived with them until their deaths in 2002. No son-in-law could have been a better and more loving caretaker than Ted. He was a real trouper during those seven years –always attending to their needs. The most thoughtful, caring, generous and patient person you could ever know. He will be missed and remembered with love by his family and friends.
Ted is survived by his wife Cam, his loving nieces Loressa (William) Syska, Irene (Igor) Abram and his Nephew, Leo Uzych as well as many great nieces and nephews located in Pennsylvania, Texas, Chicago and Lake George region. He is also survived by his dear relatives in Schenectady- Aunt Sylvia (Mancini) Palombo, Dave Lastarza, Richard (Halina) Lastarza, Mary Beth (David) Paradis, Judy (Bill) Williams, Barbara Smith, MaryAnn (Bill) Ziobrowski, all of whom he loved deeply.
While there were several health aides who cared for him throughout his illness, he was Blessed with two Angels here on earth, who loved and cared for him the past several years - Laurie Lazzari and Rose
Paszkoewicz. A special thanks to Sister Maria Rosa and Sister Justine for all their thoughts and prayers.
Relatives and Friends are invited to attend the calling hours Wednesday morning from 10 to 11 am in the chapel at St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Interment to follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
