SCHENECTADY – Susan DeAngelis Morrette died peacefully at her 11 North Jay Street home on Friday, August 9th, surrounded by her family.
Sue was born in Schenectady on August 15, 1913, passing away six days before her 100th birthday. She was the daughter of Vincenzo and Maria Pedone DeAngelis.
She was predeceased by her husband, of 57 years, Anthony Morrette, who died on October 8, 1988, her sister Rafaela DeAngelis Grzelecki; her brother Pat DeAngelis; a niece, Barbara Tremante who passed away on June 18th, and a nephew, Patrick Tremante, who died on June 13th.
Sue is survived by her daughter, Toni-Jean Vitek of Schenectady and her son Rev. Thomas Morrette of Mechanicville and Stillwater; her grandchildren, Susan (John) Petralia, of Fairfield, CT and Meredith Vitek, of Schenectady; great-grandchildren, Meredith and Lindsay Petralia and Maria Ditoro. She is also mourned by many friends and family members who loved her as their "Aunt Sue".
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. A woman of dignity and faith who cherished her family, church and her many friends, she was born in the Little Italy section of the city and she was a lifelong resident there. Sue enjoyed a life shared with neighborhood friends, who were her "second family". She was a life-long member of the former St. John the Baptist Church.
A con-celebrated Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 10 am in St. Anthony's Church, Seward Place, the church of her marriage. Interment will follow in Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets on Sunday, from 4 to 7 pm.
