Schenectady- Steven M. Taylor-Roth passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022, at St. Peters Hospital Hospice Unit. Steven valiantly fought 4 different kinds of cancer over the past 2 years.
He was born on October 1, 1948, in Brooklyn, the son of David and Diane Roth. He earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology, computer science, and theology. Before becoming an NYS worker he was a cab driver in Brooklyn and a volunteer EMS worker. Steven retired from NYS OMDD after 35 years as their computer programmer.
Steven was a member of The Albany Friend Quaker Meeting House, where he lead meeting for worship for many years. He was instrumental in teaching life and parenting skills to inmates in local prisons where he traveled on weekends. Steven stayed in touch with many of the inmates after their release, sharing with them his knowledge and always a lunch.
He enjoyed many hours with his significant other Mary, exploring beaches and Geocaching.
Steven was a unique and loving man. Who bought smiles and laughter into any room he entered.
Above all, Steven was most proud of his daughters and their many accomplishments. Megan’s passion for acting came from his sense of humor and flare of life. He was proud of the name she has made for herself in her childcare/Nanny career.
Steven was predeceased in by his wife and daughter; Susan and Lauren Roth; significant other Mary Krupp; parents and in-laws.
Steven is survived by his daughters, Megan Taylor-Roth, Marlana Krupp, and Joanna Timms; sister-in-law, Karen Yates; nephew and niece, Adam and Kim. He also leaves behind many close friends here and still in Greene NY where he previously lived; Marcia and Byron Miller and their children, Sean and Rachel. As well as many cousins who still live in Staten Island, Brooklyn, and New Jersey; Stu and Nora Septoff and their children Yvonne, Samantha, and Michael and Howie and Nancy Zimmerman and their children Shari and Melissa.
A Memorial service will be held on May 15th, at 3 pm at First Lutheran Church of Albany, 646 State Street, Albany, NY
The family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at St. Peters Hospice unit, as well as their home Hospice care, and his long-time doctors, Dr. Laura Staff and Dr. Vivienne Smith.
