Spencer A. Turner

July 25, 1943 — June 17, 2025

ROTTERDAM – Spencer A. Turner, 81, passed away on June 17, 2025, in the city where he was born and lived a full, spirited life. Born July 25, 1943, in Schenectady, Spencer was the son of the late Spencer and Katherine Dingo Turner. He was a 1961 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. He ventured into self-employment, always driven by a strong work ethic, and later, spent many dedicated years working as a printer for Moore Business Forms in Albany.
Spencer was a passionate drag racer, competing alongside his brother as the Turner Brothers, at Lebanon Valley during the Shirley Muldowney Era. He also enjoyed hunting, golfing, and coin collecting, but nothing mattered more to him than family.
His heart was most at home with his grandchildren, who he lived vicariously through, whether it was building rockets with Ashley, taking target practice with Jeffery or sharing the love of baseball with Amelia and Patrick, he dove into their worlds wholeheartedly, to the extent of attending every baseball practice and game that Patrick played in, sitting behind home plate, tracking stats for the entire team, and becoming “Gramps” to all, a bond that will last forever.
Spencer shared 58 beautiful years with his loving wife, who remained faithfully by his side through every chapter of life.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Beverly LuBrant, Phyllis Grever and Arlene Derrico.
Spencer is survived by his loving and devoted family; his wife, Carol Ferraro Turner; daughter, Patricia (Jeff) Civitello, grandchildren, Ashley (Moe) Coleman, Jeffrey (Isela) Civitello, Amelia Civitello and Patrick Civitello; brother, Bruce (Marie) Turner; great-grandchildren, Domonic Coleman and Angelo Civitello; and several nieces and nephews.
A tribute to Spencer’s life will be held at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made in Spencer’s memory to the Schenectady Blue Jays, Inc., 1464 Dalton Drive, Schenectady, NY 12308.
