AMSTERDAM – Sandra Jean DiThomas, 75, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, surrounded by her loving family.
Sandra was born in Amsterdam on November 28th, 1943, the daughter of the late Joseph Marotta and Eleanor Countryman Marotta Spagnola. She graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1961 and later in life became a talented Hairstylist. Sandra took great pride in her work and cherished her colleagues and loyal appreciative clientele. Both a beautiful lady and a caring soul, she touched many lives in a loving way.
Sandra raised her family in Rotterdam and took great joy in hosting parties for family and friends. She had a spark for life and was a skilled avid golfer for many years. Sandra later returned to Amsterdam, where she cherished her days with family, including her brother, sister, brother-in-law, nieces and their families. One of her favorite activities was to “head west” with her sister for a day of fun at the casino. Sandra also relished hosting her grandchildren and daughter for dinners, often followed by a dazzling game of scrabble and her delicious chocolate pie for dessert.
She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Tracy DiThomas and a brother, Anthony Marotta.
Sandra is survived by her loving and devoted daughter, Tricia (Michael) Clark; treasured grandchildren, Timothy August, Rhiannon Lara, Ellianna Clark: great-grandchild, Avery August; devoted siblings, Joseph Marotta, Jr. and Marilyn (Lloyd) Edgar, Aunts & Uncle, and many nieces, nephews, cousins & friends.
Our sincere thanks and appreciation to St. Mary’s hospital in Amsterdam for the compassionate care and support these last few weeks.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Schenectady, on Monday from 4 to 7 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street, Schenectady, at 11 am (congregating directly at the church).
