SCHENECTADY - Rodney Hubert, lovingly known as Rod, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at the age of 73. He was born on June 10, 1953, and was a graduate of Niskayuna High School and Schenectady Community College. Rod lived a life full of stories, laughter, friendship, and an unwavering love for animals. 

He worked many years at Lawless Manufacturing and later proudly served the City of Schenectady for 18 years as an Animal Control Officer. His compassion for animals was at the heart of who he was, and there was very little he loved more than caring for them. 

Rod is survived by his beloved cousins, Shelley Johnson (Ronnie) and Kimberly Whipple (Joshua), whom he adored; his dear friends Harvey Foote, Joe Battista and Kim Boyd, his brothers, Jonathan Hubert (Tammy) and Richard Hubert; his sister, Beverly Mess (Gerald); and his two cherished puppies, Jaylyn and Mickey. Rod was predeceased by his parents, Anthony Hubert and Dorothy Hubert, Stepmother Lillian Hubert and his brothers, Gary Hubert, Thomas Hubert, Russell Hubert, Robert Hubert and his very dear friend Chuck Malgiere.

Rod had a wonderful sense of humor and often joked that he had held “over 60 jobs” during his lifetime. No matter how many twists and turns life brought his way, Rod never gave up. He loved entertaining his friends, hosting garage sales, watching old sitcoms, The Price is Right, and never missing his favorite soap operas. He had a unique personality, a generous heart, and a way of making life interesting for everyone around him. Those who knew Rod will remember his humor, his determination, his love of animals, and the many memories he created with the people he cared about. His love for his animals was unconditional and a beautiful reflection of the kind of person he was. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will live on in the stories, laughter, and countless moments he shared with those he loved.

Relatives and friends are invited to St Luke’s Church, 1241 State Street, Schenectady on Thursday August 20th, where they may call from 9:30AM to the Mass at 11AM. The Mass will be celebrated at 11AM by Fr Dominic Isopo. Burial will take place in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville.
