TOWN OF EDINBURG – Robert H. Travis, Sr., 78, of Edinburg and Ft. Meyers, FL, entered into eternal peace at home on Friday, December 21, 2018.
Bob was born in New York City, on June 5, 1940 a son of the late Howard and Ruth Hart Travis. The family located to Rotterdam where Bob attended local schools and graduated in 1958 from Schalmont High School. Bob was a master tradesman and owned and operated Bob’s Transmission Service in Rotterdam for 50 years. Retiring in 2008, and fulfilling a lifelong dream Bob and his loving wife built their home on Sacandaga Lake. Bob lived a life of completion, achieving and succeeding in his many endeavors. Bob trained and finished several New York State Champion Beagles; and traveled throughout the United States and Canada with the Schenectady Curling Club, winning many bonspiels. He also enjoyed Coaching Rotterdam Little League baseball, winning a New York State championship in 1975.
He was an avid Yankee fan and outdoorsman. If he wasn’t watching a Yankee game or in the woods hunting he was on the golf course. Bob was a good enthusiastic, and a member of the Edison Club for 38 years. Above all, Bob’s greatest joy was his love for his family, giving; teaching and embracing them.
Bob was predeceased by a son, Richard H. Travis and a brother Fred Travis.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Donna Santore Travis, whom he married on April 13, 1958; devoted son, Robert H Travis, Jr., of Amsterdam; loving sister Marty (Cliff) Shanty; Pop to his adoring grand-daughters, Stacy (Jason) Zappia and Heather (AJ) Piantanida; cherished great-grandchildren, Madison and Gabriel Zappia and Kaiden and Callie Piantanida; his fur great-grandchild Bella Zappia; and many great friends.
Services will be held on Saturday at 3 pm at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Saturday from 12-3 pm.
