June 3, 1953 — November 10, 2021

SCHENECTADY – Richard P. ‘Rick’ Thompson, 68, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Rick was born in Schenectady on June 3, 1953, a son of the late Irving and Carmel Iovinella Thompson. He was a 1972 graduate of Linton High School and attended airline training programs. Rick worked for Piedmont Airlines and later for US Air, retiring in 2009 after many years of dedicated service. He and his wife Janice owned and operated Jerick Travel. Rick had a love for the arts and entertainment and attended American Academy of Dramatic Arts in NYC. He performed in a variety of theatrical groups locally. A kind and generous man, Rick devoted himself to others as a compassionate caregiver and friend to all. A man of great faith, Rick was an inspiration to those he so loved. In later years, Rick enjoyed visiting with his many friends, pet sitting, feeding the birds and caring for his 75 year old turtle. Rick was a longtime communicant of St. Luke’s Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Janice Evans Thompson; loving step-children; Anthony (Angela) Cook and Renee Deanna Sadiq; adoring grandchildren, Jacquelyn, Kendalyn and Roman Cook; best friends and siblings, Robert Thompson and Barbara (Debbie Butler) Thompson; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 16th at 9 am at St. Luke’s Church, State Street. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
