Richard S. “Ricky” Shafer, 65, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, November 16, 2024, due to a medical event. His untimely passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, as he had so much more life to live.
Born and raised in Schenectady, a son of the late Richard and Virginia (Bianco) Shafer. Ricky was a 1977 graduate of Linton High School; he went on to work at Price Chopper for twenty years while studying Construction Technology at SUNY Schenectady County Community College. Ricky’s vibrant personality extended beyond his career. He served as a bouncer at The Patio, where his presence was as solid as his character. A passionate athlete, he played for the Albany Metro Mallers, a semi-professional football team, creating lifelong friendships and memories on the field. From a young age, he developed a passion for carpentry and honed his craft into a lifelong career. He earned the respect of his peers and was widely regarded as a master carpenter. As the owner of Shafer Construction and Remodelers, Ricky transformed countless homes in the area, creating cherished spaces and rooms that brought joy to many families. Ricky valued the bonds he built over his lifetime, maintaining many childhood friendships throughout the years. He was known for his hardworking nature, unwavering devotion to his family and friends, and his boundless generosity. Always the first to offer a helping hand, Ricky’s kindness and selflessness touched the lives of many. Rick touched the hearts and lives of many people and was loved by many. He will be dearly missed.
Rick is survived by his siblings, Denise (Gary) Blake, Michele (Jim) Rosenberger, Natalie (Lou) Shafer, and Patrick J. (Stacy) Shafer; several nieces and nephews, Dina Baker, Denise Maryea, Nicholas Cassius Clay, Patrick Shafer, Jr. (KT), Chelsea Shafer, Michael (Erika) Rosenberger, and Mariah (Andy) James; and several great nieces and nephews. Rick is also survived by his girlfriend Jacqueline Arias and will be sorely missed by the Park Place family
His memory will live on through the countless people whose lives he impacted, both personally and professionally. Ricky’s legacy of craftsmanship, loyalty, and love will not be forgotten.
Services will be held at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Thursday, December 5th at 1 PM, with Fr. Dominic Isopo, officiating.
