ROTTERDAM - Richard L. Palmerino, 81, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at home, with his loving wife, Arlene by his side. Born in Schenectady on July 8, 1943, he was the son of the late Louis and Josephine Zannitto Palmerino.
A proud graduate of Linton High School, Class of 1961, Richard continued his education at SUNY New Paltz. He began his teaching career in 1966, dedicating 33 years to the students of Paige Elementary, Woodlawn Middle School, and Oneida Middle School. His love for teaching was evident in the care and attention he gave to each student and the many lifelong friendships he made among his colleagues during his teaching career. Richard’s warm, jovial nature and genuine concern for others touched the lives of all who knew him. He truly cared, and his kindness never went unnoticed.
Richard was a devoted husband, father and doting grandfather. He shared a deep bond with, and worked to maintain close ties with, his immediate and extended family, which include more than 20 first cousins, and many nieces and nephews. His love for his family was a cornerstone of his life. He and his wife loved traveling, often visiting their sons and grandchildren. They especially cherished the many fond memories they made during their post-retirement years on the frequent trips taken with their beloved group of travel companions. Richard was an avid sports fan and could often be seen rooting on his hometown Yankees and Giants. His love of sports was something he passed down to his sons during many trips to Yankee Stadium and continued as he cheered on his children, and later his grandchildren at various sporting events.
A devout Roman Catholic and committed Christian, Richard lived his faith through his actions and service. He was a proud member of the Rotterdam community and served for 37 years as a board member and Vice Chairperson of the New York Federal Credit Union, where his leadership and commitment were highly valued.
Richard's legacy of love, laughter, and faith will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Richard was predeceased by a sister, Margaret “Peggy” Williams.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Arlene Dipley Palmerino; loving sons, Richard A. Palmerino, David L (Terry) Palmerino and Anthony J. (Cierra) Palmerino; adoring grandsons, Nathaniel, Simon and Oliver Palmerino; several nieces, nephews and cousins, also survive.
