SCHENECTADY – Richard A. Palmer, Sr., 89, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.
Richard was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Albert and Anna DeAngelo Palmer, on January 27, 1935. He attended local schools and was a 1953 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. Richard worked at the ALCO and the General Electric for a brief period, before embarking on his career as a painting and papering contractor which was due in large part because of the influence of his Uncle Joey Palmer. He enlarged his already successful business to include decorating and retired after many years in 2010. Rich was an active member of the Rotterdam Elks, where he served as a Trustee and a Bar Coordinator; also, an avid hunter, fisherman, softball player, and golfer, owning a hole-in-one. Richard was a man of great faith, devoted to his family and community. He was a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church.
Richard was predeceased by a son, Timothy Tuttle and his brother, Robert Palmer.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Jo an Marie LaJoy Palmer, whom he married on July 11, 1987; loving children, Richard A. (Deborah) Palmer, David Tuttle, Perry (Ann) Tuttle, James Tuttle, Cynthia (James) Race, Jill (Robert) Hackett, Brenda (Stanley ‘Chip’) Morris; sister-in-law, Marie Palmer; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

A Mass for Richard will be celebrated at 12:30 pm on Tuesday at St. Luke’s Church, 1241 State Street.
Interment will follow in Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery.
