ROTTERDAM – Richard J. Farry, 66, died on Thursday the 4th of July at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, with his loving wife and children at his bedside. His earthly journey has ended and he is now enjoying his eternal reward.
Rich was born in Schenectady on October 21, 1946, a son of the late Robert "Bucky" and Albina Andrews Farry. He attended St. Joseph's Academy and was a 1964 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. Rich was proud of earning his AS degree from HVCC in 1999 through the Verizon Next Step Program. He honorably served as a Sergeant in the US Air Force during the Vietnam War. Rich started his lifelong career with Verizon in 1968, as a lineman, retiring after 30 years of service as a TTA & Consultant. In recent years, Rich worked as an attendant at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home. He was a 50 year member of the Knights of St. John Commandry #100, Uniform Rank & Fifth Degree Nobel Order; an active member of the Carman Fire Department for over 30 years, were he served as past Chief, Commissioner and President. He was a member of and supported the local Veterans clubs and organizations. Rich was a lifelong communicant of St. Joseph's Church in downtown Schenectady, serving as a Eucharistic Minister, and past President of the Parish Council. He was not only a jack of all trades, he was the master. Rich was a nurturing, fun loving and a generous soul; his dedication and devotion to servicing his country, community and church is evident in his actions, but above all, was his devotion to his family.
Rich married his childhood sweetheart Susan Connolly Farry on December 8, 1968, together they have enjoyed 44 years of marriage, along with his beloved wife, he is survived by his devoted children, whom he adored, Kelly Sloan and her husband Scott, of Rotterdam, Erin Farry and her fiancé Robert Jones, of Amsterdam, Patrick Farry of Rotterdam and Meghan Farry, of Shrewsbury, MA; his grandchildren, who he cherished dearly, Molly, Abigail and Madeleine Sloan, and Lequela and Logan Steen; his siblings, whom he admired and respected, Roberta Ann Morgan and her husband Donald, of Pocasset, MA, Timothy Farry, of Glenville, Rita Marie Shields and her husband John, of Cumberland, ME and Patricia Beckley and her husband Robert, of Missoula, MT; many loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
Services will be held at 9:30 am on Tuesday from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, and then to St. Joseph's Church, State Street, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 am. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, on Monday from 3 to 7 pm.
The Knights of St. John, will meet at the funeral home at 6:30 pm for services.
