SCHENECTADY – Ralph J. Sorrentino, 57, entered into eternal rest, surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.
Ralph was born in Schenectady on August 1, 1961 a son of Dorothy Carboni Sorrentino and the late Nicholas Sorrentino. He graduated from South Colonie High School, class of 1979 and continued his education at Herkimer Community College and received an Associate’s degree from HVCC. Ralph began his service career after high school, with the Niskayuna District #2 Fire Department, Mohawk Ambulance Service; then continuing as a Reservist, in the Air National Guard. He was called into active duty with the US Air Force, serving in Desert Storm with the #139 Ero-Medivac Unit. In keeping with his desire and dedication to helping others, Ralph earned his RN degree from Ellis School of Nursing. For the next 20 years, he devoutly worked at Glendale Home, as the Night Nurse Manager and then for St. Margaret’s Center, retiring in June 2017.
Ralph was predeceased by his father Nicholas Sorrentino and his nephew, Nicholas Sorrentino.
He is survived by his loving son, Tristan Sorrentino; beloved mother, Dorothy Sorrentino; devoted brothers, Mark (Denise) Sorrentino and Greg (Sherry) Sorrentino; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 am at St. Luke’s Church, State Street. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
