Peter Panetta

Rotterdam – Pierino ‘Peter’ Panetta, 92, entered into eternal on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, rest with his beloved wife at his side.

Peter was born in Fontechiari, Province of Frosinone, Italy, a son of Pietro and Angelina (Gizzi) Panetta. As a teenager, he immigrated to the United States with his family, embracing the opportunities of his new home while remaining proud of his Italian roots. Peter proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and, upon returning home, completed welding school. He began his working career as a welder at Condiesel, where he was a dedicated employee for many years before accepting a position with the New York State Assembly, from which he later retired.

Peter came from a close-knit family that shared a passion for horse racing, a tradition he carried throughout his life. He enjoyed spending time at the racetrack and OTB, always hoping to pick a winner. An outdoorsman at heart, Peter also loved hunting and fishing, finding great enjoyment in the quiet of the woods and on the water. Whether sharing stories of a day afield, discussing the latest races, or spending time with family and friends, Peter appreciated life's simple pleasures and the company of those he loved.

He was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Stephen Florence (Jegabbi) D’Onofrio; siblings, Brigitta (Joseph) Gizzi, Modesto (Rose) Panetta, Rosa (Frank) Ferrari and Antonio (Marie) Panetta; son-in-law, Kenneth Stewart.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Marie D’Onofrio Panetta; his loving daughter, Marianne Panetta; grandchildren, Parianne (Roger) Gould, Kara (Timothy Steele) Stewart, and Scarlett Rose (Arthur Avery, Jr.) Stewart; great-grandchildren, Jarred Frank, Kristianna Gould, Timothy Steele, Jr., Gianna Gould, Gabriella Steele, Nicholas Steele, Ayden Avery, RJ Gould, Vincent Steele; great-great-granddaughter, Millania Campbell.

Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 am from at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, followed by a Mass at 12 pm at St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

Relatives and friends may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4-7 pm.
