Paul J. Affinito

SCHENECTADY - Paul J. Affinito, 60, lifelong Schenectady resident, passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at Ellis Hospital after a long illness.
Paul was born in Schenectady on March 23, 1962, the son of Dominick W. ‘Red’ and Sylvia L. Verteramo Affinito. He was a 1980 graduate of Linton High School. Paul began work for the Capitol District OTB at the age of 16 and retired after 35 years of service as a Senior Accountant. For many years Paul worked at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, serving as director of operations and head attendant. He was loved for his friendliness and quick smile. Paul was a kind and compassionate caregiver for his mom and grandparents. Throughout his life, Paul was always upbeat, even when his health started to suffer. A true gentleman, known to all as a loyal, devoted, and honest, son, brother, and friend. From an early age, Paul was an enthusiastic and passionate bingo player, throughout the capital region and beyond, befriending many fellow players.
In addition to his parents, Paul was predeceased by his paternal grandparent John and Sylvia Affinito; his maternal grandparents, Anthony and Theresa Verteramo.
Paul is survived by his loving sister, Laurie (Tammara) Affinito; uncle, Anthony ‘Tony” and Shirley Verteramo; longtime friend, Claudia Schaffer; several nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Sunday from 1-4 pm at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street.
Services will be held on Monday at 10 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, then to St. Anthony’s Church, Seward Place, where a Mass will be celebrated at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Paul’s memory to St. Anthony’s Church.
