NISKAYUNA – Onnie Onofrio F. Nappi, 83, passed away on Monday, April 17, 2023, at Albany Medical Center after a brief illness, with his loving wife, Rosalie by his side.
Onnie was born on June 29, 1939, to Frank and Angelina Fusco Nappi in the Stockade area. He graduated from Nott Terrace High School, class of 1957, and from Albany Business College. He retired from Schenectady High School in 2018. Upon his retirement, he served as office manager for Amazing Grace Transportation. He was very active in the City of Schenectady; he chaired the Annual Christmas Parade for over 35 years, and was a founding member of Tuesday in the Park, the annual Colonial Festival; as well as other community events. Onnie was a member and past president of the Schenectady Kiwanis; Big Brothers and Sisters; past chairperson of the Albany Medical Center, Children’s Miracle Network Telethon; a past volunteer with the Capital District Epilepsy Association; and with his angelic voice sang in local Barbershop groups as well as St. Anthony’s Choir years ago. He loved the New York Yankees and enjoyed traveling to see them play. He also loved traveling with his wife to Italy, France, the Caribbean, and Aruba. Onnie was a devout Christian and a lifelong Roman Catholic and was most recently a very active parishioner of St. Luke’s Church. Onnie received many accolades throughout his life, but he was most proud of his family and the times he spent with them.
Onnie was predeceased by his parents, and a sister Rosemary Turnbull.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosalie Pacelli Nappi, and a sister Carmel Lavergne; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Saturday morning at 8 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, followed by a 9 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Luke’s Church.
Interment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
