Mollie was born and raised in Schenectady, New York, where she returned to live after her husband's retirement. Mollie flourished socially and culturally wherever she lived as long as she had her beloved husband with her. She was creative, generous and charitable. Mollie loved children and gave generously to a charity that was close to her heart, St. Jude. Mollie was extremely intelligent, and was keenly interested in politics. She loved to read and up until a year before her death, read several books on Lincoln.
