ROTTERDAM – Michael S. Maloney, 79, suddenly entered Eternal Life on Sunday, August 6, 2023.
Michael was born in Albany on April 10, 1944, the son of Edwin & Mary Maloney Dennis. He spent his childhood in Averill Park and graduated from Averill Park High School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam in the 101st Air Borne, 2nd Battalion, 327 Infantry Division. Michael received the Army’s Commendation for meritorious service in Vietnam as a squad leader, while on search and destroy operations in the Trungh Lung Valley. After being honorably discharged, Michael worked for the Department of Defense for 30 years.
After retirement, Michael excelled at all Handyman work, electrician, carpentry, and mechanic. He was an avid Hunter, Fisherman, Golfer, Yankee & Giants Fan, and loved his Dogs. Mike was also, an avid reader and frequented the Rotterdam Branch of the Public Library almost daily, enjoying the peacefulness and the friendliness of the entire staff. He was a good man and father; he had a dry sense of humor and enjoyed his visits to his favorite establishments with his cherished devoted friends. He was a member of the Rotterdam Eagles, American Legion, and a communicant of Our Lady Queen Peace Church.
Michael was predeceased by his parents; his siblings, George Dennis and Edwin Maloney. He is survived by his children, Lorie (James) Vincent; Karen (Al) Lindeman; Scott (Jillian) Maloney and Susan (Matthew Doepel) Maloney-Doepel; his partner, Gerry Schults and his former wife, Lynne Hunziker Maloney; 10 grandchildren, Ashleigh Adelman, Ciarra Hogan, Alexis Vincent, Allen Lindeman, Alyssa Lindeman, Aaron Lindeman, Gabriella Lombardi, Chloe Lombardi, Mila Maloney- Doepel and Avah Maloney-Doepel; siblings, Anna Garling, Thomas Dennis, Irene Golinski, Charles Dennis, Maryellen Arsenault, Marcellia Anderson, William Dennis; also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, Friday, August 11th from 4 to 7 pm.
A service will be held on Saturday, August 12 at 9 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, and then to Our Lady Queen of Peace Church, Princetown Road, where a Mass will be celebrated at 10 am.
Entombment will be in Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville with full military honors on August 31 at 10 AM.
