Michael C. D'Elia

January 5, 1926 — April 27, 2011

SCHENECTADY- Michael C. D’Elia, 85, entered into eternal peace on Wednesday morning surrounded by his loving family, at Ellis Hospital after a brief illness.
Michael was born in Teggiano, Italy on January 5, 1926. He worked in Switzerland as a contractor, building many churches. In 1970 he and his family immigrated to the United States, settling in Schenectady. He worked for the General Electric Company, retiring in 1988. He was an avid gardener. His backyard flourished with plenty of fruits and vegetables.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 56 years, Marianna Somma D’Elia
and his brothers, Antonio D’Elia and Emilio D’Elia.
Michael leaves behind his loving children, Vincenzo D’Elia and his wife Mimi, Elisabetta D’Elia and Giovanna and her husband Richard Augello; his beloved grandson, Michael D’Elia; siblings, Angelo and Caterina D’Elia and Maria Cobucci, both of Italy, Teresa and Francesco Cardiello, Cono and Pasqualina D’Elia, Orazio and Nicolina D’Elia, and Giuseppe and Maria D’Elia, all of Schenectady; several nieces and nephews. Michael touched the lives of so many people and will be dearly missed. His memory will always be in our hearts.
Services will be held Saturday morning at 8 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, then to St. Anthony’s Church, Seward Place, where a Mass will be celebrated at 9 am. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Friday evening from 4 to 8 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in Michael’s memory to St. Anthony’s Church Memorial Fund.
