SCOTIA – Mary DiCocco Civisca, 89, passed away on Wednesday, October 28, 2015 after a short illness.
Born February 14, 1926 in Sora, Province of Frosinone, Italy to Ralph and Concetta (DeLegge) DiCocco, Mary emigrated to the United States when she was 12 years old. She was raised in Schenectady and was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Mary spent the last 66 years as a resident of Scotia.
She retired after more than 25 years as secretary and office manager of St. Joseph's Church Parish Rectory in Schenectady.
A gifted astrologer, Mary (often affectionately referred to by others as "The Amazing Mary") was known for her extraordinary astrological expertise and insights, working with people from around the country and she even appeared on local radio in the Capital Region in the 1980's to answer questions about horoscopes and the science of astrology.
An avid reader, Mary also loved to garden and cook. She loved to spend time with her family and friends and it gave her great joy to share her love through cooking and sharing meals with them.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Baptist Health Nursing Home in Scotia, NY for their kind and compassionate care during Mary's final days.
She is predeceased by her parents; her husband Carl Civisca, whom she married on June 20, 1948 and he later died on November 25, 1983 and her brother Ercole DiCocco.
Mary is survived by her children Carol Civisca Wilber of Scotia, and Joseph Civisca of Gloucester, MA; her grandchildren: Jacqueline (Wilber) Lunato ( Ralph Vincent Lunato) of Charlottesville, VA; Colleen Wilber of Washington, DC and Michael Civisca Sears of Cape Cod, MA; her nephews Anthony DiCocco (Stephanie) of Burnt Hills, NY and Ralph DiCocco (Maureen) of Niskayuna, NY and their children.
Services will be held on Saturday at 8:30 from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street (at N. Jay Street) and then to St. Joseph's Church, Scotia, where a Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 am. Entombment will follow in St. Anthony's Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home Friday, October 30th from 4 to 7 pm.
