SCHENECTADY – Mario Caracciolo passed away on November 8, 2010, with his family and friends by his side, after a long illness. He was 80 years old.
Mario was born July 24, 1930 in Alvignano, Province of Caserta, Italy; a son of the late Antonio and Maria Carmen Caracciolo. He immigrated to Schenectady in 1951 and married his sweetheart Sarah Theresa Fluty in 1957. Mario was employed by the General Electric Company as a machinist, retiring after 29 years of devoted service. After retirement he and Sarah wintered in Hollywood, FL with their family and friends. Mario was a kind and loving man; his family, gardening and winemaking were his true passions in life. He will be missed by all. He was an avid fan of the NY Yankees, horse racing and visiting the casinos. Mario was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club, the Gabriele D’Annunzio Lodge, #321, Order of the Sons of Italy, and a communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church.
Mario is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Sarah; loving children, Anthony Caracciolo and his wife Terri, of Schenectady, Mark Caracciolo, of Albany and Linda Attanasio, of Rotterdam; sister, Anna Ventrice and her husband Alfred; sister-in –law, Maria Caracciolo; grandchildren, Robert, Michael and Rachel Caracciolo and Nicholas and Erica Attanasio; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Marco Caracciolo and Luisa Caracciolo.
Services will be held Friday morning from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, at 10 am and then to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Pleasant Street, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Kings Road.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Thursday evening from 5 to 8 pm.
