February 4, 1922 — October 1, 2018

NISKAYUNA – Marietta Popolizio, 96, passed peacefully at home on Monday, October 1, 2018, surrounded by the love of her family.
Marietta was born on February 4, 1922 in Ruviano, CE, Italy a daughter of the late Rafaele and Rosina Popolizio. Marietta attended local schools and worked in the family bakery. She immigrated with her small children in 1955, to join her beloved husband Leonardo in America. In addition to raising her family, she worked at the American Laundry, Schenectady County Office Building and Linton High School, retiring in 1980. She was an untiring worker, who was proud of her Italian heritage and worked hard to preserve and to pass on the traditions of her father and mother to her children and grandchildren. Her traditions of gardening, canning, making wine, knitting and especially baking, were done out of love for her family. She enjoyed spending winters in Hollywood, FL and the time spent vacationing with her children and grandchildren. Marietta was a devoted communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Leonardo Popolizio whom she married in Italy on July 18, 1943, until his passing on February 25, 2001; and many siblings.
Marietta is survived by her loving children; Patrick Popolizio, and Linda (Gino) Fabbri, all of Niskayuna and Anthony R. (Lisa DiDonna) Popolizio, of Charlton; 9 adoring grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11am on Friday at St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
