SCHENECTADY – Luciano Capoccia, 90, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, May 24, 2026 at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Luciano was born in Alvito, in the province of Frosinone, Italy, on February 6, 1936, a son of the late Domenico and Giuseppa (De Carolis) Capoccia. A hardworking young man, Luciano spent 18 years living and working in Brazil before immigrating to the United States in 1965.
Soon after arriving, he met the love of his life, Santina Taglienti, and the two were united in marriage on September 26, 1965, beginning a beautiful life together centered on love, faith, and family.
Luciano was employed for over 30 years as a carpenter with the General Electric Company, where he was a proud member of the Quarter Century Club. Beyond his profession, he was gifted with his hands and took great pride in everything he created. He was known for his exceptional masonry work, his carefully tended garden, his homemade wine, and his ability to oversee everything.
Deeply proud of his Italian heritage, Luciano instilled in his family the values of hard work, respect, faith, and tradition. He was a devout communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, his faith, an important part of his life upon which he built his family.
He was predeceased by his siblings, Angela Maria Cuspine DeSantos, Vincenzo Capoccia, Giustino Capoccia, Concetta DeCarolis, Victoria DeBellis, and Maria Salvucci
Luciano leaves behind a family whose lives were enriched by his love and devotion; his wife of 60 years, Santina Taglienti Capoccia; children, Assunta (Charles Batcher), Michael (Kimberly) Capoccia, and Lisa Capoccia; grandchildren, Gabriella (Kyle) Durgin, Michaella Capoccia and Luciano Capoccia; many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 9 am on Saturday at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union St, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial which will be celebrated at 10 am at St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
