Leroy V. 'Roy' Mcclaine

SCHENECTADY - LeRoy ‘Roy’ McClaine, 91, entered Eternal Life on Saturday, June 5, 2021.

Roy, the youngest child of Francis and Gertrude Young McClaine, was born in Butler, PA on May 22, 1930. He spent his childhood in East Brady, PA, and graduated from East Brady High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Trumpetfish Submarine, out of Key West, FL. After being honorably discharged in 1952, Roy was accepted to Penn State. He started working at RCA in Camden, NJ where he met his future bride. At Penn State, he received a BS in Electrical Engineering. After college he was employed at Bendix Aviation in York, PA; Sperry Rand on LI; GE Space Program in Valley Forge, PA, where he was involved with the US Space Program from its inception, Putting the first man on the Moon. The piece he worked on is on exhibit in the Smithsonian Institution. Roy also worked on the Nuclear Reactors at the Newport News Ship Yard, Newport News VA, then to Schenectady in 1979, transferring to Energy Systems retiring in 1992. After retirement, Roy worked at the Jewish Community Center for 15 years.

Above all else, Roy dedicated his life to his family. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion and untiring selfless service that will be remembered by all who knew him. He was a member of the American Legion Post 1092; Niskayuna Lions Club and St John the Evangelist Church.

Roy was predeceased by parents; his siblings, Ralph and Jean McClaine, Frank and Doris McClaine and Mary (Robert) Crawford; his in-laws, Bernard & Angela Rizzo; Jean Puzzutiello and Gus Puzzutiello.



Roy is survived by his dear wife of 65 years, Mary Puzzutiello McClaine whom he married January 29, 1956; a daughter, Portland McClaine of Audubon, NJ and a son Lee McClaine of Crested Butte, CO; two grandchildren, Seth (Heather) McClaine and Mallory (Caleb) Trowbridge; four great grandchildren, Easton, Camden, Rowan and Kylan Trowbridge; many nieces, nephews and in-laws in NJ and PA.

Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Wednesday June 16th from 4 to 7. With a prayer service at 7PM with Fr Richard Carlino, officiating. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Cherry Hill, NJ with full military honors at a later date.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Roy’s memory to the Children’s Fresh Air Home, 1100 Surf Avenue, North Wildwood, NJ 08260 or the Scholarship Fund at Camden Catholic H.S., 300 Cuthbert Blvd, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002.
