SCHENECTADY - Larry L Ruzza (Ruzzo), 78, of Schenectady passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on July 29, 2011 after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Schenectady on July 18, 1933, a son of the late Angelo and Marietta Gabriele Ruzza.
Larry served in the armed forces and was a Disabled American Veteran. He was employed by Price Chopper, retiring in 1995 after 37 dedicated years of service. At the age of 13 Larry was employed as a pin setter at the local bowling alley, which started his life long passion for bowling. He was on one of the oldest bowling shows, TV tournament time. During his bowling career, being a lefty, he made a 300 game. Larry was known in his time for having the best hot rods. He loved the holidays and getting together with family and friends, especially the yearly garden party hosted by his dear friends of 40 years, Mary and Ben. Larry was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church a life member of the Holy Name Society and worked the Festa every year. He was a member of the Gabriele D’Annunzio Lodge 321, Order of the Sons of Italy in America.
Larry is survived by his devoted sister’s and brother, Josephine Cellupica and her husband Frank, Nancy Pantano and Rit Ruzza; cherished niece and nephews, Tina, Dane and Mecha, and Dario and Sue; five great nieces and nephew’s Sofia, Sarah, Matthew, Ryan and Ruby; and his four legged friends, Onnie, Oscar, Kleo and Gumba Luigi.

Internal Medicine, and Dr. Adam Snyder of Amsterdam and Dr. David Armenia who made a difficult situation bearable through their sincere compassion, dedication and sense of humor with Larry. Thanks also to his personal caregiver Gino and Community Hospice of Schenectady. We would also like to extend our thanks to the Schenectady Fire Department.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, then to St. Anthony’s Church, Seward Place where a Mass will be celebrated at 11 am. Interment with military honors will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Tuesday from 5 to 8 pm.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Larry’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105 or the Juvenile Diabetes Association, 6 Greenwood Dr # 1A, East Greenbush, NY 12061.
