Katherine Marie Bianchi (Detrick)
NISKAYUNA - It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Kathy on June 26, 2024. She was born, raised, and educated in Niskayuna, NY. She attended Niskayuna High School, and always looked forward to her high school reunions. She obtained a B.Sc. Degree at the College of St. Rose, and then pursued a Master's degree in Education at SUNY Albany.
She then entered the career she was dedicated to for 33 years, teaching math and science to 6th graders at Lishakill Middle School. Kathy was a devoted teacher, and she loved every minute of it. She was committed to giving her very best to her students, and they returned the love to her throughout the years.
Kathy's other passion was athletics. She excelled in tennis, roller-skating, ice skating, skiing, kayaking, and pickleball. But most of all, Kathy enjoyed being with people. She was very outgoing, always with a smile on her face, always eager to lend a hand to whoever needed help. She was the eternal optimist. Even when she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2019, she did not let this stop her from teaching or pursuing the things she loved. Above all, she loved her family. She was the glue that held the family together. There were many holidays spent at her house with food, family, love, and laughter.
She met the love of her life, Dr. Gino Bianchi, in 2003 and they were wed in 2021. They shared many happy years together and traveled extensively. He was her rock throughout her cancer journey and supported her every step of the way. Kathy passed peacefully, with her husband by her side, on June 26, 2024.
Kathy was predeceased by her mother, Linda Detrick. She is survived by her father, Harold Detrick, her fraternal twin brother Karl H. Detrick (Tracey), and her sister Kimberley Davies (Ron). She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Kathy touched many lives and will continue to live in our hearts, minds, and through all the students she taught.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Timothy McElrath, his staff at the WCCA, and all the doctors, nurses, and staff at the McAuley wing of St. Peter's Hospital for their compassionate care. We also wish to thank our families, friends, neighbors, and her Lishakill colleagues for all their love and support.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Kathy’s calling hours on Monday, July 1st, 2024 from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, Schenectady from 4 to 8 pm.
Services will begin on Tuesday morning at 9 am and then to St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street, where a Mass will be celebrated at 10 am. Entombment will be in the Bianchi Family Mausoleum in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Glenville.
Rest peacefully our angel, till we meet again.
