Josephine Mango Pedone

October 3, 1932 — May 17, 2022

SCHENECTADY– Josephine Mango Pedone, 89, entered gracefully into the arms of the Lord on Tuesday, May 17th at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Josephine was born in Schenectady, New York on October 3, 1932, the daughter of the late Joseph and Michelina (Palma) Mango.
Josephine was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School, class of 1949. After graduating she worked locally at Ellis Hospital, Carl Company, and as a clerk at General Electric. Josephine was a proud owner of J&V Leasing and worked extremely hard to raise and support her family. She was a sports enthusiast; she played basketball and bowled, and was a fan of the New York Yankees, New York Jets, and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Most of all she enjoyed sitting front row at sporting events to cheer on her children and grandchildren. Josephine’s hobbies included ceramics, knitting, gardening, watching her “stories,” and replicating Mr. Food’s recipes. Her home was always filled with family and friends, where she always had a delicious home cooked meal prepared for her guests.
Josephine was a loving, kind, and nurturing woman who touched the lives of many in a meaningful way. Her classic wit always made those she loved laugh. Led by her faith, her presence shone brightly through her children, whom she raised with honor and respect. Josephine was a proud member of Saint Anthony’s Church, where she dedicated her time to serving the Lord. She especially looked forward to working the Saint Anthony’s Festa each year. She spent many years as a Eucharistic Minister, where she visited local hospitals and the homebound.
Josephine is predeceased by her son, Angelo Pedone, Jr., and her sisters, Mary Battaglia, Lebra Crupi, Madeline Cuomo, and Annette Mango.
Josephine is survived by her beloved and inseparable companion, Alvin Steele; her loving children, Rosanne (Dennis) Carringi, Marylou Pedone (Joe Roy Jackson), Joanne Ferrara (Tom Spencer), and Vincent (Nicole) Pedone; son-in-law, Angelo Ferrara; grandchildren, Kara (George) Amann, Dennis and Victoria Carringi, Anjolie Ferrara, Daniella, Nicolette, Christina, Nicholas, Brendan, and Luca Pedone; great-grandsons, Georgie and Jack Amann, and another great-grandbaby Amann due this summer; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family of Josephine Pedone is grateful to Dr. George Hughes, Dr. John Nolan, and Dr. Thomas Schumacher, for their many years of care, compassion and empathy.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 23rd at 10 a.m. at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Saint Anthony’s Church at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
