TOWN OF MOHAWK – Josephine 'Jobie' LaMalfa, 68, entered peacefully, into eternal rest on Thursday, July 7th at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by the love and peace of her family.
Jobie was born on December 2, 1947 in Yonkers, NY a daughter of the late Lewis and Kathleen (VanWart) Morrell. She was raised in Amsterdam and graduated from St. Mary's Institute. Jobie attended nursing school, earning her degree as an LPN. She worked as the Activity Director at the Mt. Loretto Nursing Home, where she compassionately cared for the many residents. Jobie later went to work for Agway (Tri Valley Crop Center) in Sprakers, NY as their bookkeeper, retiring after 25 years of service. She was a communicant of St. Cecilia Church in Fonda.
Jobie was a beautiful and spirited woman. She was a selfless and faithfully served her Lord, family and friends, always seeing to everyone's needs before her own.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Joan DiBernardo and Henry Young.
Jobie is survived by her beloved husband Danny LaMalfa, whom she married on June 20, 1975; devoted and loving daughters, Rene (Greg) Stryjski and Meeka Wadsworth; her cherished grandchildren, whom she loved so dearly, Tommy, Jason, Cody and Alexis; her dear mother-in-law, Eleanor LaMalfa, uncle, Norman Martin; 2 nieces and one nephew.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 10 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union St. and then to St. John the Evangelist Church, Union St., where a Mass will be celebrated at 11am. Interment will follow in Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery, Rotterdam.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Monday evening from 5 to 7 pm.
