SCHENECTADY- Joseph Torre, 100, formerly of Schenectady, entered into rest on Monday surrounded by his loving family.
Joe was born in Schenectady a son of the late Nicola and Angela Torre of Sicily, Italy. Joe was raised in Castroreale, Sicily, where at the age of 8 started barber training from a neighbor barber. He relocated to Schenectady and for over 67 years, owned and operated Joe's Barber Shop on Jay Street.
Joe was predeceased by his beloved wife Mary Manti Torre, whom he married on September 16, 1934 and his siblings, Salvatore and Paolo Torre and Rosina Munafo and a great granddaughter Jessica Torre.
Survivors include his loving son, Joseph N. Torre and his wife Teresa Brino Torre, of Niagara Falls; grandchildren, Joseph N. and Michelle Torre, of Niagara Falls and Tina and Gerry Sorci, of Fairview, PA; great-grandchildren, Anello Sorci, Jamie Torre, Anthony Sorci and Samantha Torre; sister-in-law, Edith Severino; loving caretakers, Mafalda and Nick Lucca, Melba Granlees, Mery Chappell and Martin Siegel; and many nieces and nephews from the Manti and Severino families.
Services will be held on Friday at 11 am at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Streets, with Fr. Richard A. Carlino, officiating. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Brandywine Avenue.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm
