Rotterdam - Joseph A. "Papa Joe" Tannatta, Sr., 80, entered peacefully into eternal rest on New Year's Day at Ellis Hospital, surrounded by the love of his family.
In his earlier years, Joe owned and operated Kinderlane Nursery School in Guilderland for 25 years, and later retired from the Schalmont School District after 10 years of service. He spent as much time as possible surrounded by his children Joe (Tara) Tannatta, Aaron (Jamie) Tannatta and the grandchildren he was so proud of, Aaron, Calen, Shayne, Ava, Brenna and Olivia. His favorite days were spent leisurely driving his prized Mercedes for family time on Sacandaga Lake, Sunday family dinners, or to sit on his son's front porch in Voorheesville where
the grand-kids would soak up every "Papa Joe" story full of words of wisdom and tales from "Goose Hill". Joe truly brought joy everywhere he went.
He was predeceased by his parents, Felix and Mary Patriarco Tannatta, and his sisters, Joyce Keating and Carmel Jack.
He is survived by his siblings, Beverly Varno, Ray (Linda) Tannatta, and Diane (Chet) Nebolini; brothers-in-law, James Keating and Richard Jack; several nieces, nephews and dear friends that were
like family.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Monday, January 10, at 9 AM, at St.
Anthony's Church, Seward Place, Schenectady, NY.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at St. Anthony's Church on Monday from 8-9 AM.
To honor Joe's love of his cat, Precious, and his past cats that were loving companions, Memorial contributions may be made to Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
