SCHENECTADY - Joseph Donald Marotta (Sept. 24, 1959 – Dec. 8, 2015) passed away unexpectedly in Schenectady, NY on Tuesday afternoon.
He was born in Corona, New York, the last of six children to Frank Marotta of Schenectady, NY and Rose Marie Yannucci of Corona, NY, both deceased. He is survived by his brothers Anthony (Terri), Frank (Cathy), Michael (Tony), and twin brother, John (Anita), and his sister, Mary Anne (John) Cassimatis of Whitestone, NY, in addition to 15 nieces and nephews, and two dozen cousins.
A proud Italian-American, Joey attended St. Leo's parochial school and John Bowne High School in Flushing, NY. A huge Yankee fan, he was employed by American Airlines for several years and enjoyed the world travel it provided. He moved back to the Capital region 10 years ago and quickly found a new family of friends, working there as a handy man and a restaurant chef. He dedicated himself to support those less fortunate than he, enjoyed preparing meals and running support meetings. He will be remembered for his quick wit and a huge heart.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 11th at 7 pm from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street, at 8 pm.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Friday from 3 to 7 pm.
