GUILDERLAND – Joseph D. Long, Jr. 60, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2024 at Ellis Hospital, after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. Joe was born in Troy, the son of Patricia A. Arndt Long and the late Joseph D. Long, Sr. who he shared his birthday with. Joe was a graduate of Colonie Central High School – Class of 1981. He worked as a carpenter for many years alongside his partner Liane. They primarily worked for the Colatosti family at their Apartment complex known as Winding Brook Manor in Albany. Joe enjoyed spending summer afternoons at the Pilot Knob Beach in Lake George. He would float and swim on many summer afternoons to take in the natural beauty of the lake and the Adirondacks.
In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a brother, Robert A. Long, his grandparents, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is survived by his loving family, his mother, Patricia A. Arndt Long; beloved partner of 33 years, Liane M. Schumann; siblings, Richard A. (Jill) Long, and Patricia A. (Vince) Talone; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kathy (John) Schubert, Karen (Barney) Duker and Robert (Flora) Schumann. Joe is also survived by many nieces and nephews including Christopher Talone (Jessie), Michael Talone, David Talone, Sarah Long, Daniel Long, Jennifer R. Schumann (Paul - Father), Elizabeth Duker (Brandon), Abigail Duker (Kevin), Amanda Flanagan (Patrick), Christian Schubert, Robert Schuman (Kimberly) and John Schumann (Mercedes). Joe has many great nieces and nephews including Leo and Olivia Talone. Joe is survived by his aunt, Christine M. Arndt Richardson (John) and his uncle, Terrence D. Arndt (Carol). Joe has many surviving cousins, too many to name. He was blessed to have grown up with so many of his cousins while spending fun-filled time at family gatherings and vacations.
A Mass will be celebrated on Thursday at 10:30 am at Christ the King Church, 20 Sumter Ave, with calling hours preceding the Mass beginning at 9 am. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery, Cohoes. Memorial contributions may be made in Joseph’s Memory to Jack’s Place, at
