SCHENECTADY – John A. Paniccia, Sr., 69, lifelong Goose Hill resident, passed away at home on Monday, May 13, 2024 after an 18 month courageous battle with Glioblastoma, with loving family at his side.
John was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Theodore and Betty Belile Paniccia, Sr. He was a 1973 graduate of Linton High School. He attended Modern Welding School and worked for the Schenectady County Highway Department, retiring in 2017 after 33 years of dedicated service. a true homebody, John lived a life centered around his family. His wife, children, grandchildren, and siblings were the core of his existence. Every decision he made, every action he took, was with their well-being and happiness in mind. Whether it was working hard to provide for them, spending quality time together, or offering support and guidance, John's devotion to his family was unwavering. To him, nothing was more fulfilling than seeing his children and grandsons thrive and being there for them every step of the way. He was a fan of everything baseball; and a member of the United Collegiate Umpire Association and umpired youth baseball and softball.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Peggy Marcello Paniccia; his loving children, John Paniccia and Jessica Paniccia; the light of his life, his grandchildren, Noah and Max Cherubin;; siblings, Edward (Diana) Paniccia, Theodore (Anna) Paniccia, Toni Paniccia, Lisa Paniccia and Alice Porto, his father-in-law, Joseph D. Marcello, Sr. and his late dear mother-in-law, Sarah Marcello, sister and brother-in-law, Patricia (the late Michael) Zentko and Joey Marcello, Jr.; many nieces, nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 1 pm at St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home this evening from 4 to 7 pm.
John's commitment to Glioblastoma research was profound, and he found pride in contributing to the advancement of treatments by donating a portion of his brain tumor. To honor his memory and continue his legacy of support, memorial contributions can be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation at glioblastomafoundation.org. Additionally, John cared deeply about helping children with ADHD, recognizing the challenges they face and the importance of providing resources and support. Contributions can also be made in his memory to CHADD.org, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of individuals affected by ADHD.
