John C. Lapointe, Sr.

GLENVILLE – John C. LaPointe, Sr., 83 passed away peacefully on Easter Monday, March 28, 2016 at Albany Medical Center Hospital after a long illness. He was surrounded by the love and devotion of his family.
John was born in Brooklyn a son of the late Norman and Ida Mae (Henry) LaPointe, Sr. He was raised in Schenectady and graduated from the former Nott Terrace High School, class of 1950. John worked at the MICA Company, before enlisting in the US Air Force, where he honorably served his country from 1951 – 1955. He was employed with the New York Telephone/ Verizon as a lineman and later as a senior testman, retiring in 1992 after 38 years of service. He was a sports enthusiast; a catcher and 1st baseman for his softball league; an avid Notre Dame and NY Yankee's fan and a huge movie buff, possessing an extensive collection of films.
John lived his life with patience, honor, respect and commitment; a legacy he leaves to his loving family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Nancy Czub LaPointe, whom he married on October 6, 1956; devoted sons; John C. (Kathleen) LaPointe, Jr., Roger J. (Irene) LaPointe, Robert J. LaPointe and Daniel M. LaPointe, Sr.; his treasured grandsons, John C (Leah) LaPointe, III, Matthew H. LaPointe and Daniel M. LaPointe, Jr.; brothers, Norman (Dolores) LaPointe, Jr. and Ronald (Audrey) LaPointe and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Friday at 9 am from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street and then to St. Anthony's Church, Seward Place, where a Mass will be celebrated at 10am. Interment with military honors will follow in Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Thursday from 4 to 8 pm.
