GLENVILLE – John E. DeCiero, Jr., 87, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Monday at Ellis Hospital.
John was born in East Orange, NJ a son of the late John and Theresa Muccillo DeCiero. He was a 1947 graduate of Gloversville High School and worked in a local glove shop, before enlisting in the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. John was honorably discharged and began a career with the General Electric as a crane operator in large motors and gas turbine departments, retiring in 1988. He was an active and dutiful member of the Gabriele D'Annunzio Lodge, #321, Order of the Sons of Italy of America. John served his lodge as Past President for 2 terms; a Trustee; 1st and 2nd Vice President; House Chairman of Maintenance; delegate for conventions; and on numerous committee's. He was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church.
The DeCiero family is grateful to the nursing staff at Ellis Hospital, for the genuine care, compassion and support given to us at this very difficult time.
John leaves his loving family a legacy of integrity, commitment and a heart filled with love and kindness.
John was predeceased by his beloved wife Marie A. Giuffre DeCiero, whom he married on June 7, 1953 and she died on January 23, 2011; a sister, Clara Rizziello.
He is survived by his loving children John DeCiero (Diane), of Glenville; Joseph DeCiero (Desiray), of Duanesburg; Jean Williams (Michael), of Georgetown, TX and Michael DeCiero (Kim Elliott), of Rotterdam; a sister, Edith De'Errico, of Rotterdam; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 8am on Thursday from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union St., (corner of N. Jay) and then to St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street, where a Mass will be celebrated at 9am. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm.
