SCHENECTADY - James Michael Maitino, known to everyone as Jim, was born in Schenectady on July 15, 1942, to the late Gabriel Maitino and Nancy (née Dominick) Maitino.
Jim graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and went on to attend Sage Junior College of Albany and Oklahoma City University, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He served his country in the United States Air Force from 1960 to 1964, including an overseas assignment in Libya. Following his military service, Jim worked for the New York State Teachers’ Retirement System and the New York State Office of Mental Health. He also owned and operated James M. Maitino Accounting Services and Tax Preparation for more than 35 years, serving his clients with dedication and experience.
Jim shared 23 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Lori, whom he married on October 19, 2007. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, traveling, and spending time in nature. Above all else, Jim treasured the time he spent with his wife, family, and friends. Those closest to him will remember the love he shared, the memories they made together, and the special place he held in their lives.
In addition to his loving wife, Lori, Jim is survived by his sister, Carolyn Werth; his daughters, Erika Maitino and Carla (Harry) Morales; his grandchildren, Matthew Maitino and Mia Maitino-Longfellow; his mother-in-law, Peggy Fabrizio; his brother-in-law, Michael (Dawn) Burdick; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Gabriel and Nancy Maitino, and his nephew, James “JJ” Werth.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. In keeping with the way Jim lived his life, the celebration will honor the love he shared, the adventures he enjoyed, and the many cherished memories he leaves behind. It will be an opportunity for family and friends to come together to remember Jim, celebrate his life, and reflect on the lasting impact he made on those who knew and loved him.
