James Leslie Hughes, 75, of Colonie, NY, passed away on September 13, 2021 at St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany, NY.
Jim was born on February 7, 1946 in Sewickley, PA and grew up in Aliquippa, PA. He was the only child of LeRoy Hughes and Marie Emogene Kunzmann. Growing up, Jim enjoyed school and athletics, particularly Little League baseball and basketball. He attended Aliquippa High School and later graduated from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA.
Jim spent a large part of his career as an educator, first as an English teacher at Center High School in Center Township, PA, and then as a guidance counselor at the former Whitingham School (K-12) in Whitingham, VT. He also worked at Hoosac Valley High School in Chesire, MA and Gateway Regional School District in Huntington, MA. Jim spent the past few years living at Cabrini Acres Senior Apartments in Colonie, NY, where he made many dear friends. He loved to read and write poetry and enjoyed helping people. Jim had a great sense of humor and could talk to anyone about anything - sports, politics, history, books, movies.
Jim was pre-deceased by his parents and his daughter Megan, who passed away in 1991. He is survived by two children, Anne DeCesare and Jonathan Hughes (Jessica); and two grandchildren, Emily DeCesare and Emma Hughes.
