Hildreth E. 'Gene' Simmons Jr.

October 8, 1937 — September 12, 2023

MIDDLE GROVE – Hildreth E. ‘Gene’ Simmons, Jr., 85, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2023.
Gene was a man of few words, but he was known for his generosity, compassion, and knowledge. His calm demeanor was appreciated by many, in times of need. He was born Hildreth Eugene Simmons Jr., to the late Eugene and Sylvia Simmons. He lived his early life in Pensacola, Florida. After high school, he joined the Air Force and was stationed as a Radar Technician. He earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science at the University of West Florida. Gene and his family moved to Saratoga Springs, NY in 1973. He worked as an internal auditor at Knoll’s Atomic Power for 23 years. Gene enjoyed golfing,
bowling, skiing, and traveling. One of his most proud accomplishments was earning his private pilot’s license. He enjoyed flying in the northeast U.S. and also piloted trips to Pensacola, FL.
Gene’s family included his former wife of 34 years, June, and their children Glenn (Tamra), and Jill (Brian). Grandchildren Paden (Stefana), Dylan (Samantha), Kaler, Taylor (Jeremy) and Evan. Great grandchildren Quinn, Cade, and Piper. His sister Gertrude, nieces and nephews. Gene’s extended family included his longtime partner, Marcia, her daughters Michelle and Danelle, grandchildren Nicholas, Ashleigh, and Jacob, and his favorite dog, Natasha.
Gene lived the life he chose, did the things he wanted to, and let everyone else do the same. He will be missed by his family and friends, but we are fortunate to have had him with us for so many years.
Contributions in memory of Gene can be made to the American Cancer Society.
