Helen H. Alvarez

SCHENECTADY – Helen M. Alvarez, 89, passed away at Ellis Hospital on September 10, 2015, after a brief illness surrounded by family and in the loving arms of her husband.
Helen was born in Granville, NY on July 9, 1926, a daughter of the late Harry and Carrie (Hoare) Hayes.
She worked at WRGB and The Place, retiring after many years of service at which time she became a home health aid, allowing her to do what she did best, caring for others. Helen was a loyal wife, loving mother, devoted grandmother and faithful friend to all. With her dazzling smile and twinkling eyes, she made everyone she met feel unique and special. She loved to read, travel and garden and cherished spending time with her family.
The Alvarez family wishes to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and technicians of the A-5 wing of Ellis Hospital, who took excellent care of not only Helen, but also her family.
Helen was predeceased by a granddaughter, Kaylee Van Nostrand.
Survivors include her; loving husband of 56 years, Frank Alvarez; beloved children, David Lee Brewster, Lori Van Nostrand, Annette Pino and Ricardo Alvarez; devoted grandmother to; Joann Gigante, Christine Tillman, Michael Pino and Matthew Van Nostrand; sister, Delsia Arndt, sister-in-law, Frances Alvarez; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Monday evening at 7 pm at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union Street, with Fr. Richard A. Carlino, officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Monday from 4 to 7 pm.
A funeral cortege will gather on Tuesday at 1: 45 pm at the entrance to the Saratoga National Cemetery, 200 Duell Road, Schuylerville, NY.
