SCHENECTADY – Gemma M. Cacciolfi, 80, entered into the arms of the Lord on Saturday morning at Ellis Hospital.
She was born in Fontechiari, Province of Frosinone, Italy on October 7, 1930, a daughter of the late Joseph and Anna Carpico Gizzi. She immigrated to the United States, through Ellis Island with her family in 1938, locating in Schenectady. She attended local schools and was a 1950 graduate of Nott Terrace High School. Gemma worked for the Department of Labor in the Unemployment Office as a claims adjustor for 25 years. She was a faithful communicant of St. John the Baptist Parish for 55 years. She was a devoted homemaker to her family, a loving mother, cherished sister and aunt. She was a masterful and skilled cook. She served her community as a volunteer for the American Cancer Society; the American Heart Association and the Jerry Lewis Telethon. Gemma was the #1 fan of the horses that ran in the “Our Eyes Wide Open Stable” colors of which her son is General Manager.
Gemma was predeceased by her beloved husband Paul J. Cacciolfi, whom she married January 13, 1951 and who died August 11, 1983; her siblings, Rosa Gizzi, Michael Gizzi and Bianca Rotundo.
Survivors include her cherished son and daughter-in -law, Joseph and Maryanne Cacciolfi, of Schenectady and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 pm at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Street, with the Rev. Richard A. Carlino, officiating. Interment will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery, Schenectady.
