Gary Louis Lombardi, lifelong resident of Schenectady, NY, passed away peacefully on January, 28, 2011. Gary was the son of the late Louis and Amelia Lombardi. He was the devoted husband of Donna Ball Lombardi of Niskayuna, NY. Gary was the beloved brother of Marisa Lombardi Doherty and her husband Francis Doherty of Arlington, MA, the late Denise Lombardi Ausborn and her husband Ed Ausborn of Burnt Hills, and proud uncle of Krista, Elisa and Louis Doherty. Gary is also survived by cherished family members and many dear and loyal friends.

Gary was a graduate of Bishop Gibbons High School, Schenectady, NY. He graduated with distinction from Siena College, Loudonville, NY and received his Juris Doctor from Albany Law School. Gary was principal and co-president of the law firm Lombardi, Walsh, Wakeman, Harrison, Amodeo and Davenport which was the successor to the firm of Lombardi, Reinhard, Walsh and Harrison founded by Gary’s father Louis Lombardi in 1956.

Gary was counsel to a wide variety of closely held businesses and professional entities. His areas of focus included tax law, business and estate planning. Gary was widely recognized for his expertise in structuring and negotiating stock and asset based acquisitions. He also represented regional divisions of international and domestic financial institutions.

In additional to his professional career, Gary served as director for the Schenectady chapter of the American Cancer Society and was a frequent lecturer for the society throughout New York State. He was committed to Siena College and established the Louis Lombardi Scholarship to honor the memory of his father. He was involved with many local charities, and was especially dedicated to the Little Sisters of the Poor in Latham, NY. Gary also served as a Reserve for the Air National Guard for six years.

Calling hours will be at St. John the Evangelist, 806 Union St, Schenectady, NY on Monday, January 31st from 2:00pm-5:00pm. Mass of Christian burial immediately following. A private burial will be held at St. Anthony’s Cemetery on Tuesday, February 1st.

In accordance with Gary’s wishes, in lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Little Sisters of the Poor at Our Lady of Hope Residence, 1 Jeanne Jugan Lane, Latham, NY 12110

The family gratefully acknowledges the immeasurable acts of kindness, generosity and outpouring of love shown to our beloved Gary in the past few months.
