Francis Cicci Marotta, Sr.

October 27, 1929 — June 28, 2012

GLENVILLE - Francis J. "Cicci" Marotta Sr., 82, of Glenville, died Thursday at home after a short illness.
Born in Scotia, Mr. Marotta was a 1947 graduate of Scotia-Glenville High School. He was a charter member of the 139th Fighter Group of the New York National Guard, now Stratton Air Base, serving for 8 years.
He worked for the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation for 37 years, serving as a chief cable splicer and as head of maintenance before retiring in the late 1980s.
Mr. Marotta enjoyed hunting and fishing throughout his life. His greatest passion was gardening. He was of the Catholic faith. Special thanks to Roseanne DeMeo for her help and support with our parents in their time of need.
His wife, Rita Ottaviano Marotta, whom he married May 29, 1954, died Jan. 20, 2002. He was the son of the late Joseph F. and Jennie Fasulo(Fasula) Marotta. His brother, Bob Marotta, predeceased him.
Survivors include three sons, Francis J. "Cheech" Marotta Jr., Robert H. Marotta, and David J. Marotta, all of Glenville; two daughters, Rebecca (Jamie) Sliter of Landisville, Pa., and Rachel A. Marotta of St. Johnsville; four grandsons, Jacob and Zachary Sliter, both of Landisville, Pa., Joseph Marotta and Jack Holmes, both of Middleburgh, three granddaughters, Kateri and Shania Marotta, both of Middleburgh, and Kristin Cimmino of Glenville; and two great-grandsons, Justin Fyvie and Nico Cimmino, both of Glenville.
Calling hours will be Monday from 4pm to 8pm at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, Union at N. Jay Street, Schenectady.
Services will be held Tuesday morning at 8:30 am at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home and then to St. Joseph's Church, First Street, Scotia where A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:30am. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery, Schenectady.
Memorial contributions may be made to cancer research.
