Filomena Ruggiero Petraccione

December 26, 1937 — May 24, 2022

SCHENECTADY – Filomena Ruggiero Petraccione, 84, beloved Matriarch of her family, entered into eternal rest suddenly on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at Albany Medical Center Hospital.
Filomena was born in Moiano, Province of Benevento, Italy on December 26, 1937, a daughter of the late Vincent and Elisabetta Bernardo Ruggiero, and immigrated to the United States in 1956. She began working as a nurse’s aide at St. Clare’s Hospital, as proud as Filomena was of her heritage and culture; she attended night school at the Marconi Center, to learn the English language.
Filomena raised her family, supported her husband in his plumbing business, and worked as a stock keeper at Knolls Atomic Power Lab. She was a member of the Madonna della Libra Society, and a devote communicant of St. Anthony’s Church, its Sacred Heart League and an annual Festa worker. She enjoyed wintering in Hollywood, Fl, and many cruises with her beloved Louie; puttering in her flower garden, attending and participating in craft fairs; and her annual pilgrimage to St. Anne’s Shrine in Quebec City.
Filomena put her unwavering belief in Jesus and after many medical triumphs, now has a special seat in heaven, where she can eternally rest. We are deeply blessed to have shared her life and to carry on her legacy of love, generosity, faith, and commitment to family.
Filomena was predeceased by her beloved husband, Louis Petraccione; siblings, Pasquale Ruggiero and Antoinette Goss, and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
She is survived by her loving and devoted children; Anna (Paolo) Califano, Pat Petraccione, Louisa Petraccione and Vincent (Jessica) Petraccione; adoring grandchildren, Paul (Nicole) Califano, Danielle (Chris) Carballeira, Nicole Califano, Louis (Sarah) Petraccione, Vin Petraccione, Natalie Petraccione, Richard Desbiens, Daniel Desbiens and Marissa Desbiens; great-grandchildren, Francesca and Alessia Califano, Eden Carballeira, Patrick Petraccione and Jamari Johnson; many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
Services will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 10 from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Church, Seward Place at 11 am. Entombment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery.
