SCHENECTADY – Elsie D. Perretta, 101, entered peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Elsie was born in Schenectady on November 13, 1914, a daughter of the late Michael and Angelina (DeFillippo) Meola. She worked as a laborer, making baseballs by hand; then as a sales clerk for various retail stores and later in the food service industry at Linton High School and St. Clare's Hospital. Although Elsie worked outside of the home, she lived as a homemaker, caring for her family which was the light of her life. She was the epitome of a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She enjoyed bowling, and was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony's Church, a member of the Sacred Heart League and an annual Festa worker.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Angelo Perretta, whom she married on October 14, 1939 and he later died on December 28, 1998; siblings, Viola DeVito, Antoinette Dominic and Carmella Martone.
Elsie is survived by her loving daughters, Marie Santelli and her husband Charles, of Ballston Lake and Marlene Mortka, of Schenectady; a brother Pat Meola, of Boca Raton, FL; a sister Mary Ferraro, of Ballston Spa; 7 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be held on Tuesday at 12 pm from the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home 501 Union Street, and then to St. John the Evangelist Church, Union Street, where a Mass will be celebrated at 1pm. Interment will follow in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Tuesday from 10:30 am to 12 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made in Elsie's memory to St. Anthony's Restoration Fund, 331 Seward Place, Schenectady, NY 12305 or Community Hospice, 445 New Karner Rd., Albany, NY 12205.
