SCHENECTADY – Elizabeth M. ‘Betty’ Zotta, 85, was called home to her Lord on Monday, September 6, 2021.
Betty was born in the Panama Canal Zone, a daughter of the late Sgt. John W. and Katherine (Krug) Mayer, Sr. She was a 1954 graduate of Draper High School and was employed for several years at the General Electric Company, before choosing to stay home and raise her family. Relocating with her family to Auburn, NY in 1971, Betty worked at the Cayuga County Saving Bank before returning to Rotterdam in 1985, working as an Au Pair and a Schenectady City School Aid for several years. She cherished her family and was always encouraging and proud of their achievements. Betty always reached out with love, support, kindness, and caring, a friend to all. She treasured the memories and special times spent at her Sacandaga Lake summer home. Her famous carrot cake was a much-requested favorite of her children and grandchildren.
She was predeceased in 1997 by her husband, Donato ‘Daniel’ Zotta, whom she married on May 4, 1957; a sister, Katherine Geddes; a dear friend Jim Strazza.
Betty is survived by her sons, Daniel (Sherry) Zotta, of Utica and Jeffery Zotta, of Rotterdam; grandchildren, Timothy (Liliya), Joshua (Elizabeth), Matthew (Jennifer), and Nathaniel, (Katie) Zotta; brother, John Mayer, Jr., of NC; 9 great-grandchildren; many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Services will be held on Friday at 12 noon at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home, 501 Union St. Interment will follow in Sts. Cyril & Method Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the Rossi & Ditoro Funeral Home on Friday from 10am until the service.
