SCHENECTADY – Elisabetta Stegagno, 92, a lifelong resident and loving guardian of N. Jay Street, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Elisabetta, lovingly known as Tina, was born in Montepagano, Italy, the daughter of the late Antonio and Viola Esposito Braccili. In 1955 she immigrated to America with her infant son Ugo, to join her beloved husband Manfredo, taking up residence on N. Jay Street in the former Pace Coffee Shop. As a young woman of faith and devotion, she rose above the many obstacles of living in a new country. Tina raised her young family with pride, tradition, and respect. She was a caring and devoted wife, mother, friend, and homemaker. Later in life, she was employed by Schenectady County, retiring after many years of service. Tina was a virtuous woman who treasured her family, friends, and church community. She was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony’s Church and a 64-year lifetime member of the Sacred Heart League.
Tina loved to cook and then cook some more and when she was finished she fed everyone. She had an amazing smile, loved to laugh, dance, listen to music, and host endless planned and spontaneous friend and family gatherings. She spent her life building, nurturing, and cherishing the many meaningful and loving relationships in her life. All who met her loved and enjoyed her.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband Manfredo in 2002 after 50 years of marriage and her siblings, Maria, Nicoletta, Emidio, and Casimiro Braccili.
Elisabetta is survived by her most loving and devoted children, Ugo J. (Cacchina Stansberry) Stegagno, Linda C. Stegagno and her fiancé, (Peter O’Lucci), and Antonio M. (Cheryl Bach) Stegagno. She was also a treasured grandmother to Gabby, Lauren, and Jacob and great-grandmother, Nonna, to Claire. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and friends in Italy.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, July 31st at 11 am at her Parish, St. Anthony’s Church, 331 Seward Place. Entombment will follow in St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
