MECHANICVILLE – Daniel N. Reo, 70, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2022, at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing Home in Valatie, where he has resided since being transferred from Albany Medical, as a result of injuries and complications he sustained as a result of a bicycle accident on July 22, 2021; surrounded by his loved ones at his side.
Dan was born in Troy, on June 20, 1951, a son of Nataleno “Ned” Reo and the late Constance (Brown) Reo, and grew up on South Street in Waterford. He graduated from Waterford Halfmoon High School and received an AAS degree from HVCC in horticulture. Dan was employed at Pakatar landscaping before opening and operating his own landscaping business. He later worked as a horticulturist at the Greene County Correctional Facility for 18 years, and then with NYS Department of Corrections in Comstock, retiring after 20 years of service. From 1995-2004, Dan worked for Specialty Silicone Products. A natural athlete, Dan played soccer, baseball, was an avid bowler, fisherman and at one time was the owner of a Harness Horses. He enjoyed the excitement of the track; and had an ardent passion for cars, motorcycles, fishing on his pontoon boat on Round Lake and coaching soccer. Dan loved being a dad and an active part of his children’s and grandchildren’s lives. He was so proud of each of their accomplishments.
Dan was predeceased by his son Nathan D. Reo and his mother, Connie Brown Reo.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dena Canistrari Reo; loving children, Daniel J. (Amy) Reo, Nicole (Dan) Moreno; devoted parents, Ned and Pat Reo; sister, Carla (Nick) DiNova, step-brother, Jason Babbie (Frank Lee Humphrey); cherished grandchildren, Justin ‘JJ’ Reo, Aubrey Reo, Emma Reo, Liliana Moreno, Natalia Reo, Daniel Moreno, Aliyah Moreno, Mariah LaPoint, and Nikky LaPoint; dear friend, Betty Ann Scarchilli; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held Thursday morning at 10:15 am from the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home, 133 Broad Street, then to St. Mary’s Church where a Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 am. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Philip J. Brendese Funeral Home on Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
